Hi Advanced, for those who do not want to read the whole thread the story so far is Advanced has been given the chance to sell 6 paintings for what he thinks they are worth with out knowing what they cost. We then split the profit less expenses. The cost will only be revealed only after Advanced has given his valuation on them

Thank you Vanny for your time.

I have to say I hope they don't owe you much as I feel I am going to struggle with these, watercolours are not really my forte.

The oil paintings "get me going".

Please don't feel as if I am being un grateful as I would love to accept the challenge and will try my very best on trying to sell these paintings . . . But I feel it may be a bit of a difficulty to sell . . .

The portrait of a gentleman looks interesting. I could sell that quite easily I feel.

I am grateful for your time and will give it a good go at trying to sell these.

    go for it advanced..

it's meant to be a challange, but if you remember that john said he paid £600 for all 15 paintings thats £40 per painting (shipping ect not included) worth a punt if you ask me.

I really don't want Vanny to feel as if I am not grateful.

I would love to accept the challenge but I also feel as if on these watercolour paintings they may present more than a challenge for me.

However, saying that I know somebody who is quite interested in watercolour paintings.

I say £40 each and one is in Bonhams.

If that portrait is Georgian / Victorian I feel it may be worth around £100 - £200.

Painting No. 1 and Number 2

these paintings were bought at an antique fair in Harrogate in the late 1980s from a LAPADA member for £700.

Advanced you have to think retail.

I would put theses two paintings in my shop today at £395 each.

I am on a buying trip tomorrow so I will not be in contact for over a week.

    Sleep on it.

briana I have no Irish paintings.

I get asked this all the time.
What is going on over there.

I like to sell items as quickly as possible.

My inital reaction thought that these would be suitable for a retail environment, hence your shop.

    "Think retail".

It is quite difficult to do this when you own no retail premise.

I also feel that you have high expectations for these paintings . . . Where I come from, I may struggle to sellthese watercolour paintings.

I would rather you make a good profit than I make a large loss.

I would be happy to accept & try and selll the oil paintings and the mixed media though.

I Agree With John's Valuation Of The Paintings For Retail. (around £250-£300) In My Opinion

You Would Need To Think Of Private Contacts Or Even Striking A Deal With A Local Dealer..

Try Finding Out What Part Of England The Scene's Are Set And Contacting Dealers Round Them Parts..

    Or Something.

Auction Value Of The Watercolours Would Be Around £60-£80-£120 Ish

This Is Where Your Local Contacts In The Business Will Come In Handy Also.

With respect Briana, how do you conclude upon these valuations?

Are there are past auction results of similar subjects and style which prove this valuation?

I only ask due to if I saw these watercolours in a auction near me. I am sure they may struggle at £30. I do not want to insult Vanny, I am just trying to be realistic.

Don't get me wrong I would absolutely love to accept and take on this challenge, however just with my requested inventory.

I am sorry, you may feel this has been a waist of time Vanny. I am sure you will still be happy to sell them though and will make a great profit on them!

So with out being greedy I may consider declaring myself out. I hope that I have not lost your respect.

I would love to sell that portrait though!

Give me a few days to consider the rest please Vanny. I may have a contact!

    Regards.

well advanced i understand your view but i have owned an antique shop before and sold high quality prints for near £100, don't for get paintings are one-offs and prices are made up from dealers valuations (i dont think the first two are £395 worth of paintings- more £250-£300 retail)

you can put what ever price you want on them it all boils down to what the buyer is willing to pay.

give it a try what's the worst that can happen?

the next 6 he gives you might be real gems.

do not think auctions because you will not make a profit,

dealers like john go to auctions all the time to source their stuff.

i think you are right to turn them down if you do not think you can make a profit though (well done)

but if you do find any of these kind of paintings at auction that only fetch £30 (buy them and sell them to john, as he paid more than that for tham)

good luck advanced (and dont forget if you get any irish paintings let me know.)
